Reigning North Wales Basketball Association  league champions Brewers began their defence at Deeside Dragons.

It was a slow scoring, physical game as both sides found their feet early doors. The Brewers had made significant changes in the off season to strengthen their squad, while Deeside had picked up free agent Connor Green following his departure from the Brewers, as well as his brother Sean.

The first quarter ended level 10-10 and in the second, as the Brewers moved through the gears, they had to overcome an injury to Head Coach Tom Griffiths which sidelined him for the rest of the game.

But their hard work over the summer paid off and they worked through to increase the tempo and pull away, point guard Jake Cooke running the show and taking the MVP honours as the champions got off to the right start, winning 68-42.
