Lloyd’s Special Brew: Time to shift gears

8th November, 2023 | News | 0 comments

We’ve had a decent start to the North Wales Basketgball Association season, without really shifting into the next gear.

Defensively we have been really, really solid, but there is still lots more to come from us on the offensive side of the ball. We just need to trust in our system – and in each other. It’s also about getting the new faces gelling with the rest of the group as well. But every week we are getting better and working out the situations where new players bring us something extra, allowing us to continue to surprise our opponents.

It’s nice to have AJ back after a couple of weeks out with an injury, he definitely adds another dimension to our offence and we look forward to having him firing on all cylinders shortly. Joe Hughes is also available for selection following his nasty ankle injury at Wrexham. It has healed faster than he had hoped and its always nice to have Joe’s presence in the squad.

When we decided to take the plunge and get a second team together, we knew we would have to recruit and our social media team have been in overdrive putting the club out there.

Boy, did we get some interest! The club’s growth has accelerated to a point that I could never have imagined even six months ago and every single one of the new guys has come in, bought into the club ethos and are quickly becoming part of the furniture. Players like Hubert Paluch, Ash Millington, Jan Santos, Easaw George and Andy Cain (to name but a few) are already making a huge difference on and off the court.

The best thing about this that it feels organic. Everyone buys in to what we are doing and sees the bigger picture. We are also building to the future with the likes of Andrew and Andrei De Guzman, Theo Harrison and Hayden Kavanaugh young lads all competing for opportunities.

This week we face the as-yet unbeaten Ellesmere Port Panthers. A big side with big personality and bags of experience. As usual we will more than likely be facing a former Brewer or two – the price of being the oldest amateur team in Chester – so we will know what to expect from them. But this will be a tough game for our guys. They are tough inside and lethal from outside, but we’ve been performing well. This should be a great game for the neutral basketball fan.

Finally I would just like to give a bit of a shout out to one of our clubs supporters – Official Kit Partner Triple Double Hoopwear.

Adam and the team have been absolutely fantastic since we signed up with them a few years ago. They have created not one, but two absolutely sensational kits as well as all the apparel we will ever need. With fresh, clean designs, they always have us looking great on and off the court.

All available teamwear will be available to view on the website soon, so if you fancy repping the Brewers in the best-looking gear around, contact us and we’ll tell you what’s available. They also do a kids range for our younger fans.

Speaking of which, I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s been down to watch Brewers and Brewers Lite so far this season, home and away. It really does spur on boys when you come on down and make some noise!
