A double-double from Luke Sharland-Wong led the Brewers to their first blowout victory in five years in the North Wales Basketball Association Senior League.
Visitors Wyddgrug Magic edged their previous encounter by three points at the death, so the Brewers were determined to turn the tables.
And turn them they did, coming out of the blocks hard to build a 26-8 first-quarter lead. The intensity continued into the second, as the home side’s sets proved effective and helped them build a 46-16 half-time lead.
A typically slow start in the third saw both sides struggle to score, but after Magic broke the deadlock, the Brewers took charge, heading into the final quarter 62-18 up.
While the home team may have eased up a little down the stretch, big centre Sharland-Wong finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds to claim the MVP award – supported by 13 points for Niel Gillard, 12 for Tim Dann and 11 for Wissam Elkak, who also clocked up five steals in a particularly industrious shift.
Special mention also to debutant Alex Rigsby, who contributed both in scoring and on the boards in his first appearance Brewers purple.
The result keeps the Brewers in touch with the playoff places with much of the second half of the season to go.
Afterwards captain Ben Scott said: “This was a great performance from the lads and it’s one that has been coming for a while. We’ve been improving and working hard and it’s starting to pay off.
“Not everything went right tonight, we know that and we’ll keep putting the effort in in training, but this is a squad that has come together this season and is starting to understand how to get the best out of each other. It feels great to be a part of and whatever happens this season, we can all be proud of what we achieve.”
