NWBA: Wirral Raptors 64 Brewers 48

23rd February, 2023 | News | 0 comments

At the business end of the North Wales Basketball Association season the Brewers faced a tough road trip to Wirral Raptors.

Chasing the top four places, the Brewers took the fight to the Raptors and rfused to back down in the opening stages. The lead passed back and forth early on, thanks in part to the hard work of Brewers MVP Wissam Elkak, Dave Thomas, Niel Gillard and Luke Sharland-Wong.

The whole squad was switched on and pushed the Raptors, running hard and falling unlucky with some of their shooting. But their tough defence held strong as they closed out the half down by just 1 25-24.

Unfortunately those misses would prove costly down the stretch, as the home side began to hit their outside shots in the secnd half. With the Brewers still creating plenty of chances bur not enjoying much luck around the hoop, the Raptors were able to pull away and build a lead that proved unassailable.

Not that the Brewers didn’t try, of course. After the Raptors went on an 11-point 4th quarter tear, the Brewers dug deep to fight back and reduce the deficit.

It was a disappointing end to a game that was closer than the scoreline suggests – and one which few would have predicted at the start of the season.
