NWBA: Wrexham Raiders 43 Brewers Lite 69

10th October, 2023 | News | 0 comments

Brewers Lite announced themselves to the North Wales basketball world with a stunning 26-point victory over Wrexham Raiders.

The Lite – Brewers Basketball’s new development team – entered the North Wales Basketball Association this season looking to bed in and offer opportunities to new players without expectation.

But at Glyndwr University they lit the fuse, taking the game to a talented Raiders side and hustling hard to lead from start to finish and claim a 69-43 win in only their second competitive game.

The scoring was led by new signing Easaw George, who put up a phenomenal 25 points as he claimed the LMC Lighting and Electrical MVP Award. He was ably supported on the scoresheet by Marcin Fiedorowicz who posted 14 and Hubert Paluch and Tim Dann who added 9 apiece.

In truth however it was an immense team performance, with tough defending, committed rebounding and great communication fuelling an outstanding performance and bringing home the win.

The first quarter started close, with both sides trading baskets and Raiders fabled organisation and hustle keeping things tight, but despite this the Lite managed to edge a 13-9 quarter lead through strong rebounding and rapid counter attacks.

It was a similar story in the second, both sides fairly evenly matched with the visiting side extending their lead slightly but not quite able to break the game open.

Leading 29-21 at the half, it looked as if the Raiders might rally in the third as they made adjustments and went on a run of offence. In truth, this was expected and with Brewers Lite playing well it felt as if this well-fought game could go either way.

But in the final quarter Lite lit it up, clamping down on defence and clinically executing on offence. They won the quarter 22-9 to claim an historic win for the side.

“This win came way ahead of schedule,” said Lite Head Coach Ben Scott. “But in fairness the lads have put in so much work over the summer since we decided to launch this team, they’ve earned it.

“After suffering a defeat in their first game against Mold it would have been easy for their heads to drop and want to lick their wounds for a bit. But they hit training afterwards with the right attitude and have shown an incredible level of positivity and confidence.

“Remember, this team is very newly formed and some players have only recently signed for the club.

“To have that on-court understanding and the ability to manage a game like that against a Raiders team we all respect for their work rate and game management is amazing. It’s a testament to every single one of the guys who played.”
